Hairetsu - mapS 2 eerF
aight here's the tape - i'm not reviewing the intro or outro for points purposes, as they're just filler anyways, like most albums.
01 - intro - NA
------------------
lamping, typing and smoking a bowl. wwlt.
02 - the story - 7/10
-------------------------
beat is just okay but the flow over it is smooth, i dig the chill vocals quite a bit, definitely suits your tone well. the chorus isn't the hottest thing ever, but it's hit or miss, plenty of people will dig it, i don't. topic is engaging, obviously easy to relate to, a good track to start the album out with. irl 'here's my story' tracks don't really carry a ton of replay value, which kinda sucks, but i'm stoked you made one.
03 - daily grind - 10/10
-----------------------------
beat comes in well, flow is phenomenal and your overdubs is HECKA improved over the demo stuff you've been doin. you went from hobbyist to taking shit serious in like, a matter of months, which is superdope. i feel like you could have collab'd with koopa on this track, it's very much mixtape messiah-ish, if that makes sense. no real complaints, this'll get lots of repeats
04 - my night - 8/10
-------------------------
beat is a club banger, hot shit if you're into that. hook of 'my night' is mixed way too hot for my tastes, altho the following lines fit much better. the verses don't seem mixed in super well either, but the track is still the shit. plenty of vague shouts and references, which is tight. i wish the mix had been better, but i can always touch the EQ when i hit repeat
05 - internet marketing - 8/10
-------------------------------------
i don't know if this is how the beat was when you acquired it, but it seems hecka overcompressed - not in the added hotness via limited sense, but in the drums straining against the speaker way. it's still enjoyable, but the sense of pumping is very distracting. these are the best verses i've heard from hairetsu, bar none. this whole track is just sickness, overdubs are well-placed, hook is hilarious and catchy as fuck. SP shouts ftw too. had the beat not been slammed, this would've def been a 10/10.
06 - lampfest (feat ytc) 9/10
-----------------------------------
flow is mature, lots of swagger in the hook, good fx on the dubs as well... i like the beat quite a bit, very smooth and perfect for the subject matter. one gripe is that your voice and yt's are at varying levels on the mix and that's a bit distracting; doesn't ruin the track by any means, tmyk. the switchups are great, and i like that it's not just PERSON A, HOOK, PERSON B, HOOK, but you guys trade off more than once which is awesome. again, another that would've gotten a 10 were it not for vocal level issues.
07 - joined together 10/10
---------------------------------
i love this beat, the pads and the guitar go really well, good choice. the verses have a few spots that are kinda sloppy, but overall everything is dropped well, cohesive thoughts, nice flow. the chorus is sexy, very catchy. it's a slow chill track, which, again, i think brings out a great sound for your voice. you've got a deeper timbre, and the lampin baked sound is perfect for you. that's all i got.
08 - science (feat stc) - 10/10
-----------------------------------
beat starts out a bit empty, so i hope more elements come into the mix over time, i love that shit. flow comes in smooth and consistent, no complaints there. phlows drops sick fucking STC flow, exactly the kinda shit i was expecting, great cameo fo sho! the hook is good stuff, mixed a bit loud, but his overdubs are solid too. yt comes in and murders it as well, as to be expected
09 - outro
-------------
this kinda outro is always nice on a new drop. and lol i wondered who did the album cover, good shit. have fun @ sxsw homie
ALL - HAIRETSU - MAPS 2 FREE - 8.85/10
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok, overall impressions, there were a couple soft spots but the EP comes hard, varying styles of beats and flow switchups are prevalent, the cameos are solid. i would have liked to hear another club banger or a more indie-style track, but with 7 complete songs this is a well-rounded EP already. beats are all jacked, so the mixtape feel is definitely there, but at least the beats weren't empty shells of pathetic composition, like so much of the stuff we hear. this will be getting heavy playtime at the office. everyone should cop this, especially if you've never heard hairetsu before, which i imagine is possible.
